Mount Fuji (2 Days)

Day 1: Tokyo – Mount Fuji (D)

Meet at Tokyo’s Tochomae Station then depart for the ultimate adventure climbing the nation’s highest summit. In the mid-morning, arrive at Mt. Fuji Subashiri 5th station, the starting point of the trek up the conical stratovolcano. Following the quieter Subashiri route on the eastern side of the mountain, the challenging trek leads through a Shinto temple and gradually steepens as the landscape changes from forest into alpine terrain, composed of multi-colored green and red rocks unique to volcanoes. After five-kilometer trek, you will reach to the Fujisan hotel mountain hut at 3,350-meters. Enjoy a dinner before getting comfortable in a sleeping bag for the night.

Day 2: Mount Fuji – Tokyo (B, L)

Wake up early and follow the winding trail in the pre-dawn darkness at a relaxed pace and reach the summit in time for sunrise. Watch as the sun slowly appears above the sea of clouds, bathing the surrounding scenery in shades of pink and orange. Known as ‘goraiko’, the scene is so breathtakingly beautiful, the Japanese have even coined a word to describe the sunrise atop Mount Fuji. Choose to walk across the crater, home to various temples and shrines, and tour the eight highest points of the volcano, including the 3,775-meter Kengamine Peak. After a well-deserved breakfast at the summit, it’s time to begin the descent. Hike all the way back to Subashiri 5th station then board the train back to Tokyo.
